Welcome to Inner Health Solutions

Our business was established in 2005 by partners Deborah Sheehy and Gerard O’Riley and offers a range of complementary therapies to help you achieve greater health, balance and wellbeing including: Counselling, Psychotherapy, Couples Therapy, Remedial and Sports Massage as well as Meditation and Mindfulness techniques.

Deborah and Gerard are skilled and experienced therapists who are qualified members of their respective Professional Health Associations. For the past 16 years they have been running their family business in the suburb of Carnegie in Southeast Melbourne where they have proudly supported lots of community endeavours and particularly local school fundraisers. They have established a loyal client base within Carnegie and its surrounding suburbs and enjoy the sense of community that this creates.

Gerard and Deborah understand that there are times in everyone’s lives when we may need professional support and care and they look forward to helping you on your path to better health and wellness.

Gerard O’Riley

Gerard O’Riley has over 25 years experience in the complementary health profession.

He has a Diploma of Remedial Massage Therapies, a Certificate IV in Massage and a Certificate in Traditional Chinese Therapy and Massage. He is a Professional Member of Australia’s Massage and Myotherapy Association.

Over the past 16 years at Inner Health Solutions Gerard has been treating people from all walks of life with a wide variety of presenting conditions. He sees office workers and professionals with neck and shoulder stress right through to builders with strained and tired muscles. He also looks after sports people including marathon runners, triathletes, footballers, tennis players and swimmers, both amateur and professional. He has looked after pre and post-partum Mums right through to grandparents. He has a wealth of experience and knowledge and can treat many muscular skeletal conditions.

Gerard has been practicing Chi Gong, Tai Chi, Martial Arts and Meditation for over 30 years. He has been teaching various aspects of these art forms in Melbourne since 1996 and has also worked as a Group Fitness Instructor at Melbourne’s premier gym, City Club at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Melbourne.

Gerard has also provided a range of Corporate Health, Fitness and Wellbeing Programs to companies. These programs are specifically designed to help employees reduce stress, develop emotional intelligence, improve vitality and create healthy lifestyles.

Prior to Covid-19, Gerard was teaching at some of Melbourne’s private and public secondary colleges in the areas of Massage, Chi Gong, Martial Arts, Self-Defence and Meditation. He also taught Chi Gong and Meditation classes in Carnegie, Melbourne.

Gerard is passionate about educating people and passing on the health benefits that can be gained through incorporating any of these modalities into our lives. He utilizes all that he has learned through his personal experiences, years of training and practice in a unique and engaging style.

Deborah Sheehy

Deborah has worked in the mental health profession for over 18 years. She holds a First Class Honours Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy along with specialised qualifications in Couple’s Therapy. She has also completed Level 3 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and is a “Gottman Relationship Checkup” verified member. Deborah has particular experience and expertise in treating Depression, Anxiety, Stress, Couple’s Relationship issues, Trauma and Chronic illness, espcially Endometriosis and other women’s health issues. She is a certified TRTP (The Richards Trauma Process) Practitioner, a dynamic step by step process involving gulded self-reflection and deep imagining that is safe, quick and effective at helping to resolve past distressing events, trauma and their related symptoms. Deborah is a Professional Clinical Member of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and a member of the College of Counselling and the College of Relationship Counselling.

She also has a wealth of experience and expertise in the corporate environment, having worked as an Assistant Vice President of Human Resources with an international financial solutions company and as Office & Personnel Manager with Ireland’s leading business newspaper.

In 2003 Deborah moved from Dublin, Ireland to Melbourne, Australia and in 2006 she established Inner Health Solutions, along with fellow health professional Gerard O’Riley.

Her skills include Counselling, Psychotherapy, Couple’s Therapy, Groupwork, Mindfulness and Meditation. Through her warm, supportive and professional approach, Deborah has helped many men and women with a broad range of presenting issues including Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Grief, Trauma, Relationships, Marriage Counselling, Chronic Illness, Career Guidance, Personal Growth and Life Transitions.

Deborah also has a special interest in Women’s Health issues including Endometriosis, PMS, Chronic Pain, Infertility, Pregnancy, Miscarriage, Adoption, Post-Natal Depression & Menopause and has particular expertise in helping women to navigate these health issues and enhance their emotional and physical wellbeing. She co-founded the Endometriosis Assoc of Ireland and wrote the first ever Irish study on the psychological impact of the disorder. She was also an active committee member of the Endometriosis Assoc of Victoria and worked for the Melbourne Endometriosis Clinic as a Counsellor. She has helped to raise awareness of Endometriosis by giving presentations to companies, health care workers and secondary schools on the nature and impact of the disorder on women’s lives.

IMPORTANT: Due to current Covid-19 Restrictions in Melbourne, the clinic is currently closed for massage services. All Counselling services are taking place online.

When we re-open, if you have any cold, flu, fever or respiratory symptoms, no matter how mild; or if you have been in direct contact with someone else who has these symptoms; or of if you have attended any Covid-19 Hotspots; please DO NOT ATTEND the Inner Health Solutions practice until you have received medical clearance. As part of our Covid Safe Plan clients are currently mandated to wear masks, as are therapists, to check-in to our QR system & to use the hand sanitisers provided. All Counselling services are currently taking place online.
